Valley of the Mist Quilters Guild

LEARN - CREATE - SHARE - GROW

Welcome to the Valley of the Mist Quilting Guild. New Year, new ideas, new members, new journeys and new adventures from the lines of a pattern to the final stitches a quilter envisions. Intertwined through the complex quilt blocks, appliques, and various scraps of fabric turned into memorable tributes and hours of creations that only a quilter could imagine. Idle hands make no progress but the machines and hands of a quilter help stitch and spread creations of love with every pull of the thread. “Blankets wrap you in warmth, quilts wrap you in love,” unknown author. Thank you to all of our members for spreading lots of joy and love this past year.

Valley of the Mist Quilter’s Guild has a long tradition of Philanthropy. This past year our members were instrumental in donating not only their skills and money but they also selflessly provided endless support, prayers and countless hours of quilting and creating handmade items. The items consisted of the following: 70 twin bed size bed quilts, 58 quilts including twin size quilts, lap quilts and throws for women and children, 53 baby items (including burp pads, changing pads, comfort pads and crib quilts), 58 Christmas stockings, over 250 pillow cases, over 100 dog beds, and many knit scarves and hats. The recipients of these items were: US Vets Program at March ARB, Alternatives to Domestic Violence, Assistance League-Foster Youth Program, SAFE PALS program for at risk youth and Local animal rescue shelters. In addition to the items listed above we also collected monthly items and donated to Alternative to Domestic Violence: twin bed sheets, pillows, cleaning supplies, gas and food cards, washcloths, office supplies art and crafts supplies, fabric and sewing machines with sewing supplies.

We have a new roster of guild officers, and new visions to realize and accomplish. Our classes and speakers for 2019 are exceptional and offer a wide range of skills and interests. Be sure and check them out under “Speakers and Classes” and “Upcoming Events”. If you are in search of a fulfilling and worthwhile hobby come out and visit our guild.

Tamara shares: “Whether you call them art quilts or fiber art, my work revolves around a love of fiber, fabric and color.  The vivid colors of fiber and fabric and the texture and dimensionality of quilting are what thrills me about this art form.  No matter what or how much I do, I can’t extinguish my passion to create with my hands.  My favorite manner of work is improvisational where I explore line, shape, and color to create harmony and motion. I’ve spent the last 20 years exploring every facet of fiber art before finding the sweet spot that makes my artist heart feel at home: combining a wide variety of fibers in different ways, and then quilting, always quilting.” Visit her website at: tamaraleberer.com

Presidents Message

Welcome to the Valley of the Mist Quilters Guild website.  We hope that what you find and explore here will cause you to actually join us in person for a meeting or two, and that those meetings will encourage you to become an active member.

It has been my privilege to serve this guild in various capacities for about 12 years, most recently as President in 2017 and 2018.  Valley of the Mist strives to be a welcoming and educational group of quilters that meets monthly and has a rich and active philanthropy program encompassing both the creation and donation of quilts and handmade Christmas stockings, as well as making financial donations to local charities in need. Quilting is my passion, and making quilts for those in need is all-important to me.  I am grateful that my guild has such a marvelous heritage of making beautiful quilts to give to those who need an expression of love and warmth.  Please consider joining us.

Inspiration for the Month:

“YOUR WORK IS GOING TO FILL A LARGE PART OF YOUR LIFE, AND THE ONLY WAY TO BE TRULY SATISFIED IS TO DO WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS GREAT WORK. AND THE ONLY WAY TO DO GREAT WORK IS TO LOVE WHAT YOU DO. IF YOU HAVENT FOUND IT YET, KEEP LOOKING. DON’T SETTLE. AS WITH ALL MATTERS OF THE HEART, YOU’LL KNOW WHEN YOU FIND IT.” STEVE JOBS
